Challenges
Technology is present in various sectors. The largest fashion retailer in Brazil believes in its power to provide greater agility and functionality to serve its customers. To ensure product quality, nothing is better than relying on Quality Analysts (QA).
Therefore, Datum was called upon to bring improvements and technological and innovative solutions to the Point of Sale (POS), checkout (self-checkout), and e-commerce squads. Below, we will describe more about our work with this great partner.
POS Squad
For several years, the client had been seeking automation of the POS, but it only happened successfully with Datum’s arrival, bringing in a QA professional. We provided the client with a QA responsible for automating the POS, and since then, improvements have been developed, including the construction of robotic automation to capture unnoticed errors – either when QAs fail to detect them or to expand the detection of new bugs not previously caught.
With this automation in place, the time for homologation decreases, and the involved QAs have a greater chance of increasing test coverage.
Checkout – Self-Service or Self-Checkout
Datum has a QA with extensive experience in the product leading the testing efforts for the Checkout squad and the self-checkout system, which uses a Pin Pad and an electronic keypad for customers to enter their PIN numbers (card password) when making purchases with payment cards.
This feature offers greater autonomy to consumers by addressing one of the main customer complaints: long queues at the cashiers. Additionally, other benefits can be realized through the implementation of this technology in the business:
- Greater autonomy during the purchase process;
- Modernization of the organization;
- Reduction in operational costs.
The operation is quite simple. As the customer scans the barcode on the self-checkout scanner and registers the merchandise, an intuitive interface appears, allowing them to initiate and complete the purchase without requiring any assistance. Easy, right?
E-commerce
With a squad composed of mid-level and senior QAs, our client realized that a junior-level QA professional would fit their proposed demands. Based on this, we sought to provide the requested profile, bringing in a junior-level QA professional.
Although she is a junior professional, the team aims to develop her skills as she takes on new tasks. The e-commerce squad is responsible for the customer’s experience throughout their purchasing journey, so ensuring the quality of this process is crucial.
Datum is committed to conducting a thorough hunting process for collaborators according to our clients’ profiles and needs. It was no different with this major retailer. We work with a QA professional who supports testing for web, Android, iOS, etc. Therefore, expectations are aligned from the beginning to deliver solutions to our partner’s squads and/or products.
Technologies used
Below are some technologies used by our client:
- Java backend is standardized throughout the organization, except for the POS squad, which uses Python;
- Gherkin (to standardize the way specifications are written in scenarios);
- Appium for app automation;
- Selenium for web;
- Testing on REST APIs.
Additionally, the client mentions the value that Datum brings to the company by providing candidate profiles aligned with the business values and team harmony.
Here at Datum, we have several differentiators that help our clients embark on new technological journeys, including the Growth Team, Value Delivery Cycle (with squads as a service directing efforts towards effective deliveries through continuous sprints), and Stable Teams, where we provide mentorship, development programs, OKRs, and 1:1 sessions to enable teams to act with maturity, clarity, and stability.
