A few months ago, Datum started its operations in Canada and, with the arrival of cultural diversity and innovation in the country, many connections were made. Amongst so many meetings, Datum ‘s path crossed with that of the Federation of Canadian-Brazilian Companies (FCBB). After this moment, we interviewed the President of FCBB, Sérgio Frias, who, through his eyes, helped us to delve even further into the country’s culture.
Do you know how technology development in Canada works? What are the trends in innovation that are on the rise in the country and do you know the main challenges when it comes to IT team management ?
In the chat, Sérgio answered these and many other questions on the subject. Find out in this article how this partnership is helping Datum bring cutting-edge technology and innovation to different regions of Canada.
“We aim to create connections, therefore, they are the nature of our business ”, says FCBB President Sergio Frias. In the chat, the CEO explained that FCBB works to promote enriching connections based on the following elements:
- Understanding of business needs;
- Guidance regarding the professionals who will be needed in Canada or Brazil;
- Connection with organizations without any risk (demonstrating a track record regarding the company).
For Datum, this becomes essential, as it helps us to build a bridge to our future partners, where we can support their business objectives by taking our solutions through Functional Times Cross, Squad as a Service and Tech as a Service.
When we asked Sérgio about his choice of Canada, he commented on the different opportunities offered by the country, with education, economics and the development and application of technology being one of the main points. Today, Waterloo is known as Canada’s Silicon Valley, as it is home to more than 1,100 companies or more than two startups for every 1,000 residents — twice as many places also seen as industry hubs, such as Tel Aviv, Israel, and Austin, in the United States.
According to Innovation , Science and Economic Development Canada, more than half of small businesses are located in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. In his speech, the CEO comments on the great support offered by Canada to small and medium-sized companies. Knowing that 98% of the country’s companies are small and employ more than 8 million people, different resources are made available to foster the growth of these businesses.
“Canada’s growth takes place through these small companies that generate a lot of financial return for the country. Therefore, the government offers many resources to support and encourage business growth”, declares FCBB President and CEO, Sérgio Frias.
When asked about innovation trends in Canada, he mentions the development of technologies for the agricultural area, products that use digitalization and artificial intelligence, as well as initiatives focused on ESG, are gaining prominence in the country. Currently, Datum develops technological solutions for different segments, such as Finance, Retail, Agriculture and Health, and can help the growth of potential customers.
As the country is known for fostering cultural diversity, we asked the FCBB CEO what initiatives are being carried out to further expand the debate. “We are promoting a schedule of events. We aim to bring women entrepreneurs who are already in Canada, to tell their stories and inspire other people who want to migrate to the country. The idea is to take the position that you come to the country and be who you are, because the differences here are smaller”, he points out.
To finish the conversation, we talk about the main challenges faced by companies when it comes to hiring IT professionals. “The biggest difficulty we face with our partners is finding talent and, above all, retaining them. So, our mission is to bring connections like Datum to them, to offer a specialized service that will help in this process” he concludes.
