From the Millennium Bug to Digital Transformation, Mobile First and the Financial Revolution, Datum has actively participated in these great technology milestones. For over 20 years in the software development market, the company has followed the biggest changes in technology and leveraged its customers by offering even more innovation and agility for everyday life.
However, to follow all this evolution and understand how Canada became Datum’s second home, it is necessary to understand what led the company to be such a powerful presence in the development of technological solutions.
In a conversation with the CEO of Datum, Alexandre Zanetti and the CTO, Carine Bruxel, we were able to understand more about Datum’s trajectory throughout its 22 years of existence.
The emergence of Datum in the IT market
According to Zanetti – as he is called here – just like the Formula 1 (F1) cars that accelerate in different countries and that need a mixed team, with differentiated and specialized professionals, working in each stage of preparation of the machine, Datum was born with a similar objective: uniting the expertise of highly qualified professionals with the agility of an F1 team.
In 1999, Datum was born, a company focused on software quality, which already carried in its baggage extensive market experience and which with its know-how promised to bring even more innovation to its customers. Coincidentally, in this same year, we followed the millennium bug – the collective fear that computers would not understand the turn from 1999 to the 2000s, causing a generalized system failure.
We faced this great moment and developed technological solutions that helped transform companies and startups. Over so many years, we have seen clients achieve their goals, launching new projects with agility, building teams with a strategic mindset and revolutionizing the technology market.
Digital Transformation: solving problems
We are proud to know that we had the chance to follow so many changes that impacted the way people relate to technology and that we even had the opportunity to foster new solutions through relationships based on trust.
Datum’s CTO, Carine Bruxel reinforces the importance of our role as an agent of change, bringing digital transformation into the business with the aim of solving problems of partners that had not yet gone through this cultural transition.
Datum offers its customers a mentality change process in companies that start to use technology to fulfill the objective of becoming more modern, obtaining higher performance, achieving greater market visibility and expanding technological advances that impact people around the world.
Technological Revolution
We were part of great moments in the history of technology and we were able to follow how much it impacted the way people relate to each other and also to products and services. With the internet being part of everyone’s life and the fast pace dictated by smartphones and tablets, here comes the mobile first in mid-2015.
Knowing that many people access websites through smartphones, the concept of mobile first has made any web design take into account usability on mobile devices first. Taking into account these new market needs, it was time to listen, discuss, propose and walk with our customers to transform challenges into the best experiences.
Besides that, many other movements happened incessantly and thousands of people began to see technology as an ally to their business. Studies show that in 2018, financial institutions invested around BRL$ 19 billion in technology. The arrival of Wearables, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain revolutionized the financial market.
With 49% of Datum’s customer base occupied by companies in the financial segment, we actively participated in this financial revolution and saw a change in user behavior: people started to mention their banks, they began to disclose on their social networks how much they loved the experience provided by them and to work in favor of the brand, introducing their banks to friends and family.
It seems impossible, but it’s not! This is all because, like our customers, we care about providing magical experiences for users.
Human Centric: understand our passion for people
In 2019, it was Datum’s turn to experience a new moment of transformation. According to the CTO, Carine Bruxel, we look inside the company, review internal processes, aim high and achieve a renewal-based mindset.
Based on this, we further strengthened our pillars focused on the human side. We reinforced what was already known: We are passionate about technology and all its possibilities, but it’s the people who make our eyes shine!
With a horizontal culture based on human centric, diversity of people and ideas, constant feedback and many respectful exchanges, Datum has become a reference in Squad as a Service. Knowing that Canada is considered a multicultural, diverse country that believes in the importance of immigration for the enrichment of Culture, we realized that the right time had come to make it our second home.
We decided to embark on this new possibility and dive headfirst into this adventure to mix our cultures and share our knowledge with a country that has so much to teach us. So, check out below the main reasons that made us choose Canada as our home – or did it choose us?
Multiculturalism
The city of Toronto in Canada is a reference in cultural diversity as half of its 2.8 million inhabitants are immigrants. As you stroll through skyscraper-lined streets, green spaces like Queen’s Park to the dazzling CN Tower, you can hear 140 different languages.
According to statistics released by the Canadian government, Toronto has the second highest percentage of foreign residents in the world, second only to Miami, in the United States.
The country is known for its respectful, honest and extremely polite citizens. As in Brazil, Canadians have a very open and receptive culture, where they make a point of helping anyone, regardless of their origin. Amazing, isn’t it? We love it too!
The World Leader in Artificial Intelligence
Canada is about to take the world lead in Artificial Intelligence research. According to The Canadian Al Ecosystem study, this achievement is linked to different factors: the opening of the Canadian country to immigrants, government investment in cutting-edge research, constant collaboration between universities and companies and an incredible concentration of experts.
Focus on Innovation
Canada has 4 fronts to stimulate innovation: talent, scientific basis, global clusters and connections, as well as financial stability and maturity. The government has an essential role since its support is divided between Industry, Government, Universities and Teaching Hospitals.
With this initiative, the country hopes to generate three important results: acceleration in terms of innovation, creation of new jobs and better economic development.
In addition to all these reasons, for some time now Datum has been receiving very special invitations to be part of the business environment in the Canadian nation. Since the internationalization planning, we felt very welcomed and respected and are sure that together we will build new technological journeys.
We are excited about all the news to come and the endless possibilities that Canada has in store for us. May we revolutionize the way the world sees technology, dare with our customers and accomplish big dreams together. It will be a path of filled with innovation, technology and, of course, amazing people.
